Getting the larger, perkier breasts you dreamed of is exciting for many reasons, including beach vacations! If you are planning for a seaside vacation as well as breast augmentation this year, then you should talk to our plastic surgeons about timing. You’ll need to delay swimming, heavy lifting, and strenuous activities for a period following the procedure.
Swimming and Air Travel After Breast Augmentation
The farther apart you can schedule your vacation and breast enlargement, the better. Your incisions should be fully healed before a big vacation or travel, and you’ll want to allow enough time to clear the risk of post-surgical complications or follow-up, so that you can enjoy your vacay worry-free.
Each person may have a different timeline based on their unique healing response and the nature of the vacation, but some of the nitty gritty details include:
- Allow at least 4 weeks before submerging in a swimming pool. The incisions will be almost fully healed, and the chlorinated water is one of the most sanitary options.
- Allow at least 3 months before swimming in the ocean, gulf, lake, or other natural body of water. This water is untreated and therefore your incisions must be fully and completely healed to keep bacteria out. Swimming in the ocean may also require more strenuous activity using your upper body, so everything must be healed.
- Avoid heavy lifting if you are flying at 4 weeks after surgery. Check all luggage so you don’t have to carry anything. Purses, slings, backpacks: everything should be on a roller or checked unless you are at least 6 weeks past the surgical appointment.
If you are planning a beach getaway for the winter of 2021/2022, then now is a great time to schedule breast augmentation at our practice. By the time your trip arrives, you’ll be ready for all the adventure of your well-deserved excursion.
