How People Prepare for Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic procedure in America! If you want larger, fuller breasts, then this may be the right procedure for you. Here are some ways to get started:

The Consultation

A young woman in glasses and professional clothes looks at a laptop and holds a notebook Your first step is the consultation. You will meet with the plastic surgeon at our practice, and take all the time you need to go over all aspects of the procedure. You can expect to:

  • Discuss your candidacy
  • Discuss the procedure
  • Review your health and medical history
  • Get answers to all of your questions and discuss concerns
  • Go over the risks and benefits
  • Learn about what you can reasonably expect from the results
  • Learn about our surgeons’ credentials and experience
  • Get fees and financing information
  • Understand the downtime and recovery

Scheduling Surgery

If you decide to elect breast enhancement, you will schedule your surgical day with our staff. We will let you know about how that day will go, how you can pay for or finance your procedure, and make sure you don’t have any lingering questions or concerns.

The Days Leading Up to Surgery

In the weeks leading up to breast augmentation, we will make sure you know what to do, such as:

  • Begin or stop taking certain medications as instructed by the surgeon
  • Arranging for someone (spouse, family member, friend) to bring you to surgery and drive you home
  • Making sure someone is available to stay with you for at least the first 24 hours after surgery, in your home
  • Buying or preparing meals ahead of time so you won’t need to worry about getting nutritious, healthy meals while you’re healing
  • Getting at least one week off from work
  • Arranging for help with any of your daily routines and responsibilities (i.e. childcare, errands, events, getting kids to and from school, etc.)
  • Quitting smoking and all forms of nicotine use at least three weeks before surgery (and being prepared to stay off the nicotine products for a full three weeks after)
  • Eating well, exercising, getting plenty of rest, limiting alcohol, and staying hydrated

The Day of Surgery

We’ll ask you to:

  • Take a shower
  • Skip the cosmetics, deodorant, creams, lotions, hairspray, etc.
  • Brush your teeth but do not swallow any water or paste
  • Wear comfortable, baggy clothes
  • A button-up shirt may be the easiest to remove and put on
  • Wear socks to keep your feet warm
  • Bring a list of last-minute questions, if you have any

Don’t worry about remembering these pointers. We will make sure you have all the information you need.
