So you’ve made the decision to undergo breast augmentation—now what? The next step (and possibly the most important one) is narrowing down your search for plastic surgeons in South Jersey who can help you achieve your goals. But how do you know you’re making the right choice? With so many options, it can be tough to narrow down your options. In this post, I will help you understand what to look for so you can select the right match for you.
Go Local
First, let’s narrow down your pool in the most obvious way: proximity. Choosing a doctor whose office is close to where you live has real advantages. While some people do opt to travel for breast augmentation or other types of plastic surgery, the process is easier if you stay close to home.
Air travel can be risky too soon after surgery, and long car trips can be uncomfortable and inconvenient while you’re recuperating. Additionally, you’ll need to see your surgeon for routine follow-up appointments. These typically occur the day after surgery, 1 week after surgery, and about 6 weeks after surgery. Choosing a surgeon who’s too far away can make this process costly and inconvenient. To make your breast augmentation experience as streamlined as possible, look for surgeons within about 15 miles of home.
Check Credentials
Once you’ve got a few names of surgeons who provide breast augmentation in South Jersey, it’s time to dive deeper. Choosing a doctor with the right credentials is important!
For example, I’m a board-certified plastic surgeon. This means that I’ve completed board certification, a voluntary process to prove my skills and earn this prestigious distinction. I highly recommend seeking out a board-certified plastic surgeon to complete your breast augmentation. Pay special attention to surgeons who advertise special expertise in breast augmentation. Considering physicians with ample experience in your procedure of choice means they’ve likely treated a diverse array of bodies and personalities and can work with you to create the specific results you imagine.
Look at Photos
Before-and-after photos go hand-in-hand with credentials. Your surgeon should be excited to share before-and-after photos with you—if not online, then in person during your consultation. Seeing results with your own eyes can give you an excellent idea of what to expect.
Review Reviews
Another great way to get a good sense of what a surgeon can do for you is by browsing online reviews. Popular sites like RealSelf.com and Yelp don’t allow providers to censor negative reviews, so you can easily get an accurate idea of what patients really think.
Check Schedules
Finally, there’s the matter of timing. Once you’ve had a few consultations, consider your preferred surgeon’s availability as well as your own. Schedule your surgery at a time when you’re able to take off at least a week from work and will have someone available to help around the house. You should also be at least 1 month away from a vacation or any other major event, as your body will need time to recuperate after surgery. Finding a surgeon whose schedule matches up with yours is the last detail you need to consider before booking your breast augmentation.
