If you have pockets of fat that resist all your best diet and exercise efforts, you may be tempted to hide under layers of sweaters and scarves this winter. Instead of bundling up, consider shedding the fat with a simple, noninvasive procedure that freezes your fat cells. I often recommend CoolSculpting to my patients in South Jersey who want a quick and effective body contouring option that will help them look their best at upcoming holiday events.
In this blog post, I’ll explain how CoolSculpting works and outline what it can and cannot do for men and women who want to finally rid themselves of small areas of fat.
What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting uses cryolipolysis to freeze and kill fat cells. Once the fat cells die, your body eliminates them naturally.
Results are visible as soon as 3 weeks after treatment. Your body keeps ridding itself of fat cells as they die, though, so your results will continue to improve over the 2 to 3 months following the procedure.
The procedure lasts only 30 to 90 minutes for most men and women. Your actual treatment time will depend on the area of fat to be treated. Since the procedure is noninvasive, there’s no recovery period. After your treatment, you can resume your regular daily activities without any restrictions.
What can CoolSculpting do for me?
CoolSculpting is popular with both men and women who appreciate the treatment’s versatility. It can diminish unwanted fat in several areas of the body, including:
- Abdomen
- Love handles and muffin top
- Inner and outer thighs
- Arms
- Under the chin
CoolSculpting reduces 20 to 25% of the fat in the treated area, so some people opt for several treatments to achieve the results they want. Others are completely satisfied with a single treatment. Real Housewives of New York star Sonja Morgan recently raved about the fat reduction she saw after just one CoolSculpting session.
What are the limitations of CoolSculpting?
Sometimes, patients are looking for more dramatic results than CoolSculpting can accomplish. In these situations, liposuction or a tummy tuck might be a better option to achieve the desired outcome.
While CoolSculpting is very effective at eliminating small pockets of fat, it cannot tighten loose or sagging skin. In fact, if you have very loose skin, removing some of the fat in that area may worsen the appearance.
Even though CoolSculpting cannot solve every problem area, we can often address those trouble spots with surgical (or other nonsurgical) procedures. CoolSculpting cannot:
- Help you lose weight
- Create definition
- Tighten loose skin
- Reduce cellulite
My earlier blog post discussing the differences between CoolSculpting and liposuction can give you a better idea of how each procedure addresses body contouring issues. If you want a dramatic change to your body’s contours, I can work with you to find the procedure that’s most appropriate for your desired results.
Don’t hide your body under layers of clothing this winter. CoolSculpting can help you look your best for upcoming holiday parties, winter sports adventures, and new year activities.
