Hair thinning and bald patches are more common than many people think, and they affect both men and women. NeoGraft hair restoration provides a precise method of redistributing your hair follicles for thicker coverage.
Board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Sean Bidic and Dr. Vinay Gundlapalli perform the NeoGraft procedures at American Surgical Arts. We offer this treatment as a med spa service in Mullica Hill, New Jersey, serving patients throughout Gloucester County and the surrounding areas.
What Is NeoGraft?
NeoGraft is a minimally invasive hair restoration method that uses pneumatic pressure to extract and implant individual hair follicles. It’s based on follicular unit extraction (FUE), a technique that avoids the need for a linear incision by removing follicles one at a time from a donor area, usually the back or sides of the scalp.
These follicles are naturally resistant to thinning, which helps the results last over time. NeoGraft supports high graft survival rates by preserving the follicle's structure during the transfer.
The transplanted hairs continue to grow just like they would have in their original location and blend in with your surrounding hair.
Your NeoGraft Procedure
On the day of your procedure, it's a good idea to wear comfortable clothes. Due to the meticulous nature of the procedure, it can last several hours. Throughout the day, you'll be able to get up to move the bathroom, stretch, or have a snack.
The surgeon begins by shaving your donor hair. From this patch of buzzed hair, he begins harvesting individual follicles. The number of follicles used in your procedure depends on the severity of your condition. As he works, he places the follicles in a special solution to keep them alive and healthy.
Once the appropriate number of follicles has been gathered, the doctor applies a topical anesthetic to your bald area. One at a time, he grafts each follicle to this area, being careful to add follicles at an appropriate density and at the correct angle so that their growth matches that of the surrounding native hair.
Your Recovery & Results
After your treatment, you can return home. Most patients can safely wash their hair the next day using a modified method. You can also return to work the next day. Although pain is not severe, it’s normal to have some discomfort and swelling on your scalp. These symptoms are usually manageable with over-the-counter medication.
The transplanted follicles grow at the same rate as native hair, so it may be a couple of months before you can fully enjoy your results. It's important to be patient. In the immediate weeks after your NeoGraft procedure, you may notice some of the transplanted follicles "shedding" from your scalp. This is normal and is actually a good indication that the treatment worked.
In the long term, you can style and cut your transplanted hair just as you normally would. Unlike previous forms of hair restoration, NeoGraft does not create any significant visible scarring. Enjoy your renewed fullness and youthful, thick hair on your terms. In most cases, a single NeoGraft treatment is all that's needed for incredible results.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the Best Age for a NeoGraft Hair Transplant?
NeoGraft can be a good option for both younger and older adults. There’s no single “best” age for a NeoGraft hair transplant.
Candidacy depends more on the pattern and stability of your hair loss than on your age. Many providers recommend waiting until hair loss has stabilized, typically in the late 20s or older, to get long-term results.
Can I Still Lose Hair After a NeoGraft Procedure?
Yes, it’s possible to continue losing hair in untreated areas. NeoGraft transplants hair follicles that are resistant to thinning, but it doesn’t stop future hair loss elsewhere on the scalp.
You can choose to have more sessions later or use medical therapies like minoxidil or finasteride to support ongoing hair health.
How Do I Maintain My Results?
It’s extremely important to follow the post-procedure instructions closely, especially in the first few weeks. Other things that will help are using hair-supportive treatments, managing stress, and protecting the scalp from sun damage.
In some cases, we may recommend medications to slow further hair loss in untreated areas.
Does NeoGraft Look Natural?
Yes, NeoGraft looks very natural. We place each follicle at an angle and density that mimics the natural growth pattern of your surrounding hair. Because the transplanted hair comes from your own scalp, it blends in nicely once it begins to grow.
When Will the Transplanted Hair Start Growing?
Most patients see new growth around three to four months after the procedure. Hair growth typically becomes more noticeable by six months, and you should see full results between nine and twelve months.
It’s normal for the transplanted hairs to shed in the first few weeks. This is a temporary phase and part of the normal growth cycle.
How Many Grafts Do I Need With NeoGraft?
The number of grafts needed depends on the size of the treatment area and the desired density. Some people may need just 1,000 grafts to fill in a small area, while others may require 2,000 or more.
During your consultation, we will evaluate your hair loss pattern, donor area, and goals to recommend an appropriate number.
